STAR TOURING AND RIDING ASSOCIATION
CHAPTER 224 – EL CAJON, CA

January 2011 Ride Report

The first chapter meeting of 2011 is now on the books. Let the New Year begin!

The meeting started at precisely 9:00 AM with 13 members in attendance. The first order of business was to collect and process Ride Waivers from the members which continued throughout the meeting.

We welcomed back our 2010 Officer Corp for 2011, they include:

 John Neidert  President
 Terry Snow  Vice President
 Ken Moen  Sgt At Arms
 Dave Whitehead Secretary
 Mike Barrett  Treasurer
 Debra Melanson LOS Rep
 Guy Anastasia  Star Vets Rep

Sam and Shauna Laughlin have stepped down as Directors and that Don Martin has stepped down as the Southern California State Director.  Bob and Anna Barbano have been named Western Region Directors, and new state Directors will be named shortly.

The chapter will be attending the annual Southwest STAR-BQ again this year. However since this will be a shorter ride, it was decided that riders will meet at a location yet to be determined somewhere in the North County area. The departure time from this location will be 12:00 Noon for Ventura.

Chapter 224’s annual Laughlin Lunch Run will be slightly different this year. Rather than meeting for breakfast in Temecula, the group will be meeting at the Arco station at the south end of town and leaving at 6:00 AM (Friday April 29’th). This is to allow more time to look around once the destination has been reached. Anyone that has not yet attended this event should seriously consider it. The ride is a REAL Bun-Burner (roughly 600 miles round trip) and a LOT of fun! Well worth the effort and we stay off the Freeways as much as possible.

The famous painter Sue Hopper will be at Motoworld again this year the week immediately following the STAR-BQ event. Start thinking of those touch-ups and customizations that you’ve been wanting on your bike’s paint job! More information will follow.

Mike Mancini distributed information on a motorcycle transport company he found. The company is called “AA Motorcycle Transport” and can be found with Google. Any members needing to ship a motorcycle anywhere in the country should contact them.

This year’s Ride Committee Chairs will be Gary Dudar and Kurt Lawson. Ride suggestions should be posted to the appropriate board within the Forum or can be e-mailed to either Gary or Kurt. Please contact our president for their e-mail addresses. Let’s all get INVOLVED as to where the chapter rides! Not getting involved leaves no room for complaints about the ride.

Chapter finances at the start of the year consisted of the petty cash kept in the lock box ($50), and $50.02 in the Credit Union account.  There were 2 cash raffle drawings this month to clear the remaining funds from 2010 along with those collected at the meeting.

The chapter charter was read aloud to the entire group. Questions and answers followed.  Signing of the applicable documents was completed, and we were off.

This month’s chapter ride was to the Barrett Junction Café.  After the charter reading, only six members were able to make the ride.  It was a great day weather-wise, so we took the long route out Japitul Valley Rd to Lyons Valley Rd.  Then picked up Honey Springs Rd. for the trip to Hwy 94 and our arrival at Barrett Junction Café.  After lunch, the majority of the group rode Hwy 94 back to Rancho San Diego before parting ways for home.  It was certainly nice to have a great day of riding weather after the debacle we had in December!

MEMBERS ARE REMINDED TO RENEW THEIR STAR MEMBERSHIPS BY THE DUE DATE NOTED ON YOUR CARDS.
